Though it is not as prevalent as it was in the summer of 2022, the mpox virus is still circulating. Knowing the signs and symptoms as well as the behaviors that can lead to an mpox infection can help you protect yourself and your sexual partners.

Symptoms of mpox include rash, fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, exhaustion, cough or congestion. People may have some or all of the symptoms, which usually appear about 21 days after exposure. Mpox is spread by close, personal contact with an infected person, including skin-to-skin contact and contact with clothing, bedding, towels or other personal items.

Those who think they may have been exposed to mpox or who are experiencing symptoms can contact Allies for Health + Wellbeing at 412-345-7456 or visit AlliesPGH.org to make an appointment to see a healthcare provider.

Mpox can be prevented with vaccination. You can talk to the providers at Allies about your eligibility for the mpox vaccine and get vaccinated at our office. The mpox vaccine consists of two injections and is highly effective at preventing mpox.

Visit AlliesPGH.org or call 412-345-7456 to make an appointment for mpox vaccination or any of our other services.
