About the Allies Ball and Free for All

The Allies Ball is our largest fundraising activity, and its success in 2022 is more important than ever. Due to significant cost increases – especially the HIV/AIDS medications we provide through our pharmacy – Allies serves more individuals with far fewer financial resources.

Your support of the 2022 Allies Ball & Free for All will ensure that we can continue to provide medical and mental care, food, housing assistance and other critical services for those living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS.

The Allies Ball will feature an elegant champagne reception outside the Children’s Museum, with entertainment and the presentation of the Kerry Stoner Award to longtime Allies employee Alan Jones, who retired in January. The Kerry Stoner Award is presented annually to honor a person who has shown commitment to Stoner’s legacy and vision. Stoner, a tireless HIV/AIDS activist who died of complications from AIDS in 1993, was a founder and the first executive director of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, now Allies for Health + Wellbeing. We will also be recognizing our inaugural Bright Young People and their work.

After a unique dining experience in multiple themed dining rooms, guests will parade to the Free for All. The Free for All is an event that is exactly that: a fun, free party that anyone can attend, with entertainment from True T Pittsburgh and music by Jellyfish. Allies wants to create a safe, festive environment accessible to all regardless of financial circumstances. Allies is committed to increasing inclusion and access, and the Free for All event aligns with this goal.

About the Bright Young Things / Bright Young People

The 2022 Allies Ball pays homage to the creative genius of photographer and artist Sir Cecil Beaton. Beaton was best known for his elegant, imaginative photos of 1920s and -30's era British high society, particularly of the young socialites known as the Bright Young Things. They were known for throwing outrageous, over-the-top parties, as well as their attempts to change the status quo, especially within the arts.

We are reimagining the Bright Young People of today as those who are making a real and tangible difference in our community and working toward a bright future, particularly in the realm of diversity, equity and inclusion. At both the Allies Ball and the Free for All, we will be honoring and celebrating a group of young people in our community who are already making their mark through their art, their careers and their activism.
